Excertos do discurso do primeiro-ministro do Canadá, Paul Martin, perante o parlamento do Canadá em 16 de Fevereiro de 2005 acerca da introdução da lei (aprovada a 28 de Junho) que permite o casamento civil entre duas pessoas do mesmo sexo:
